Gaelle Broad MLC meets with MRGC

The Mayors and CEOs of the Murray River Group met in Echuca on 2 March and were joined by recently elected Upper House MLC Gaelle Broad to discuss regional priorities. Floods and the upcoming Parliamentary Inquiry into the 2022 Victorian flood events were one of the key discussion points. MRGC will look to make a submission to this inquiry.

Mayors and CEOs also discussed VNI-West and the ongoing AEMO process. MRGC expressed its serious disappointment at the community engagement that AEMO had been undertaking on such a significant project. MRGC made it clear to AEMO representatives that the consultation was inadequate. MRGC felt it had been disrespectful to residents and needed to improve.

Discussion with representatives from the Basin Community Committee was interesting with Adrian Weston and Rachel Kelly telling the Group about the work of the Committee and the recent tour of the lower lakes that they had participated in.

MRGC Mayors and CEOs will meet again in Loddon Shire on 1 June.
