Floods Affect MRGC Region
JANUARY 2023
The worst flooding since 2011 – and in some places the worst since 1956 – have swept through the MRGC region since September. The flooding has different characteristics depending on the river systems feeding them and on location. However, the damage they have done to roads and bridges, culverts and drains, parks and streets across our communities is devastating wherever you are.
Council staff across the region have been working incredibly hard to keep services going as much as possible while also dealing with flood emergencies – in many cases, dealing with flooding of their own properties as well.
MRGC councils will be working hard over the coming months and years on recovery and are looking to the State and Federal Governments to be responsive and work closely with us and our communities to repair the damage.
